Canadian DXpedition To St Joseph and Outer Islands

The MDXA is pleased to announce that we have activated St.Joseph,Horse,Neebish and Camp D' Ours Islands on July 7th 2002.Here is a list of our Crew members.

Brian Pawloski-W8BRI---Chuck LeMarbre-W8VOM---Jim Cordes-KI8JD

Donald Lafreniere-VA3DJL---Dave Clark-W8DO---Brian Robinson-VA3BRR

Hundreds of contacts were made from St.Joseph Island in Canada. That island was our base camp,we had a fantastic 4 bedroom cottage! The DXpedition was planned as a 3 day event but we had to rent the cottage for an entire week as they do not rent it out on a day to day basis. Some crew members were there just one day and others 3 days.Jim was there all week and we all had great fun!

We ran SSB and CW as well as PSK 31. Dave Clark,W8DO did a great job on CW working many FIST members with our FISTS Club number #9300.Jim,KI8JD was helpful in all areas of our multi island dxpedition.Brian,W8BRI and Chuck,W8VOM held down the fort on PSK 31. Our SSB team included Don,VA3DJL and Brian,VA3BRR. They did a super job and worked very hard!We were also happy to have Tim Kymes,KC8BZE and Dale Johnson,KC8JLH visit us and make a few contacts.

We also activated Horse Island,Canada, Don-VA3DJL,Brian,VA3BRR and Jim,KI8JD activated Horse Island and also buried our clubs Treasure Chest there! Chuck-W8VOM and Brian Pawloski-W8BRI activated Neebish island.Chucks son Dustin LeMarbre went with them.We then set our sites on Camp D" Ours Island in Canada. Brian,W8BRI..Jim,KI8JD and Chuck,W8VOM made the short hop to Camp D' Ours and put that island on the air! That made a total of 4 islands in just one *very* long day! The area was beautiful and many of these islands have never been activated. This year we were able to activate our islands before bad weather set in early on Monday morning. We did not need an entire week to accomplish our goals, hard work and a little luck saved the day. The bands were not in the best shape and we were not able to make as many contacts as we would have liked but we got the job done and activated these four beautiful islands! We now have activated 10 islands,7 in the US and 3 in Canada.

We now leave a GPS Treasure Cach on all of our Island DXpeditions!

The MDXA is proud to be the First Amateur Radio group to combine Island activations with GeoCache Treasure Hunting!

We placed our first Treasure Chest on Horse Island Canada and as of today it has been found twice! Both parties took some of the cache and added thier own items and buried it again for other island visitors to find!.
